We have a new member, DarkFerret. As he said - Anything in the name of science. According to his words he is particulary interested in ghost parrots. --Lama 03:45, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
Parrotologists' Society is now open to all people, interested in natural sciences. Today we welcome Dr. Livingstone, who is a well known botanist and his experiments with plants' watering gained him fame and a position in a Shartak's Science Hall of Fame. --Lama 00:29, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
Parrotology
A story behind all this...
As I always wanted to become parrotologist, I start my bird observing journal today.
• 2007-06-06 10:44 spotted a parrot. Starting observations. Parrot looks much like a parrot, it has two wings, a beak and some legs too. And many colors.
• 2007-06-06 11:21 Parrot moved 1SE
• 2007-06-06 14:16 Almost lost track of a parrot! It moved 3E, 2NE and 1N. Phew, that was close. I must watch it better.
• 2007-06-06 15:25 Parrot moved 2E
• 2007-06-06 16:18 Parrot moved 2E
• A parrot squawks "hey bird" (2007-06-06 16:35)
• 2007-06-06 17:11 Parrot moved 1E
• A parrot makes a sound remarkably similar to a human cough. (2007-06-06 18:05)
After that, I lost a track of the bird. but tomorrow I'm going to find myself a new one :D Parrotology is fun!
2007-06-10 22:21 Being ghastly observer is quite comfortable, yet loosing a bird means starting everything again. I need tracking skills! Signed: Devoted parrotologist.
And that's when I got an idea of starting a Society, devoted to exploring wonderful world of Shartak fauna, namely parrots.
Facts about parrots
Shartak parrots - their HP and AP
Wandering around you will probably meet some parrots. They are known to have low health and their beaks aren't the most efficient weapon in the world. Really? Read below for some less known truth about different kinds of parrots.
- a parrot - 1 DMG, 5 HP. Your daily parrot. Yawn...
- a vicious parrot - 2 DMG, 6 HP / 3 DMG, 7 HP - who would've expect? These little birds can be annoying, so you better watch your sleep when a vicious parrot is near.
- a man-eating parrot - 4 DMG, 8 HP - a little threat during a daytime it can make you visit your home-camp shaman in the night. Man-eating parrots were never spotted in their natural habitat, but lab tests prove that there is a possibility such a monster appears one day and terrorizes our dwellings.
Below you can see photos of the parrots:
Parrots and tracking skills
Even if you learned Tracking Mastery skill, you will not be able to track a bird. Now that I thought of this it seems obvious...
Roger's Diary...
2007-06-12 - Preparations for field research started
Hut
From inside, you can see this is a trading post. There are numerous supplies stacked along shelves and a sign hangs near the door indicates you should beware of the guard dog.
I cannot wait to hit the jungle again. Good I still have some money, this way affording faks and herbs for my first trip into wilderness as a parrotologist wasn't a problem; furthermore, I believe I bought all of the medical supplies in stock. That's not much though... I also tried a mango juice, must say it was very refreshing. If everything goes well and evil spirits are not going to bother me, I think I can move in about 3 days.
For my travel plans, I decided to take the north coast until I leave highly populated areas. I hope there are some parrots there. Sadly, it is getting harder and harder every day to meet any birds in close vicinity of settlements (if you agree to call shipwreck a settlement, for that matter). My next entry will appear here when the 1st official parrotologist expedition blasts off.
2007-06-22 - Advanced tracking
After 10 days of a hard work I earned enough to afford mentioned skill. Now it is only 532 experience points and I will get another tracking skill. Preparations are pretty boring and do not give me all that excitation I feel when observing parrots from behind the big banana leaf but I keep telling to myself that without these necessary abilities my work wouldn't be of much efficiency. Back to XP gathering then!
2007-07-04 - Expert tracking
Not much to say. Sorry for all the folks scared to death because of my urge to research and explore. Science is something more important than simple stupid human morality. Life, death, doesn't matter. Hope they understand...
2007-07-19 - Expedition starts
Now that I've mastered tracking and fully regenerated my science-devoted body, I decided to start my expedition and get to know parrots better. Are there any bird customs we are not aware of? What about the speaking parrots? Is there any man-eating parrot out alive? I'm moving on!
(some time later)
I followed the coastline to the east. I've grasped almost a full picture of island's fauna. I've seen numerous large stags and elephants, various deers, a monkey and even a tiger. No parrots in sight, though. Maybe parrots are not to be found near the seaside? With such thought in mind I set up a camp and decided to take a rest.
2007-08-08 - First expedition summary, Second expedition
First expedition was a total failure, I just got distracted by the jungle's beauty and ended up in the tigers' jaws. Today I just have started second expedition, I'll move NE to find a place for setting up a base for my researching activities, safe from jungle dwellers equipped with claws and other disturbing bodily parts.
2007-08-16 - Research base location chosen
Currently two of our Society members are setting up a camp in the ruins north of Derby. Huts are really nice, though they could use some cleaning. We hope to begin our research next week, as soon as we prepare the place.
