Revision as of 23:37, 7 May 2006

Scattered about the island are a number of items that can be found. Some things tend to be found more in the camps and villages, other things are more likely to be found in the jungle.

Clicking on an Item in your inventory uses 1 AP. Generally, this attempts to use the item (such as the Sharpening Stone); otherwise, you get a message like: "Upon closer inspection, the knife appears to be a weapon."

Melee Weapons

Weapon Critical Hits

There is an unknown chance of a weapon dealing additional damage during combat. "Maybe it's luck or maybe it's skill, your attack is right on target and inflicts more damage than normal. You attack the (target) for 5 damage."

Weapon Breaking

There is an unknown chance of a weapon breaking during combat, which causes you to lose that weapon. "Unlucky or just clumsy? The blade snaps off and you're left holding the handle, which you discard."

Dagger

  • Base damage: 1 point
  • Base accuracy: 20%
  • Locations: Ruins

Required for writing messages on trees or huts. More accurate than a fist.

Knife

  • Base damage: 1 point
  • Base accuracy : 20%
  • Locations: Villages

Required for writing messages on trees or huts. More accurate than a fist.

Blunt Machete

  • Base damage: 1 point
  • Base accuracy: 20%
  • Locations: Villages, Jungle

Can be used to chop through jungle or for attacking animals and people. Doesn't always succeed in chopping the jungle. Using a sharpening stone, the blunt machete can be sharpened to become a machete.

Machete

  • Base damage: 2 points
  • Base accuracy: 20%
  • Locations: Villages, Jungle
  • Breakable

Rather useful for chopping through the jungle, and also for dealing more damage than just punching.

There is an unknown chance of a machete becoming dull from chopping vegetation. "You chop down some of the vegetation. Your machete blade becomes dull from the chopping."

Blunt Cutlass

  • Base damage: 1 point
  • Base accuracy: 20%
  • Locations: Ship

Can be used to chop through jungle or for attacking animals and people. Doesn't always succeed in chopping the jungle. Seems identical to blunt machete. Using a sharpening stone, the blunt cutlass can be sharpened to become a cutlass.

Cutlass

  • Base damage: 2 points
  • Base accuracy: 20%
  • Locations: Ship
  • Breakable

Rather useful for chopping through the jungle, and also for dealing more damage than just punching. Functionally identical to a machete, but worth 20% more when trading.

Heavy Sword

  • Base damage: 4 points
  • Base accuracy: 20%
  • Locations: Jungle (?)
  • Used by: Outsiders (Natives?? UNVERIFIED!)

Seems to be a quite capable weapon, ready to deal signifigant melee damage. There might only be one confirmed example.

Ranged Weapons and Ammunition

Blowpipe

  • Base damage: 4 points
  • Base accuracy: 20%
  • Locations: Villages, Ruins
  • Used by: Natives (Outsiders require the Native Knowledge skill)

Needs ammo - poison darts. Holds 1 dart at a time.

Poison Dart

Used as ammo for the blowpipe (which holds 1 dart). Found as singles or in bundles with up to 8 in a bundle (?).

Rifle

  • Base damage: 5 points
  • Base accuracy : 20%
  • Locations: Armoury Hut, Villages
  • Used by: Outsiders (Natives require the Outsider Knowledge skill)

Needs ammo - rifle bullets. Holds 2 bullets at a time.

Rifle Bullet

Used as ammo for the rifle (which holds 2 bullets). Found as singles or in boxes with up to 8 in a box (?).

Healing and Shark Bite Recovery

Consumable

Using a restorative item takes 1 AP and consumes the item (removing it from your inventory).

Application

Fruits and drinks can only be used on yourself. Only the First Aid Kit and the Healing Herbs can be applied on others.

First Aid Kit

Can be applied on NPCs, other players, and self. One of the items that will heal the wounds caused by shark bites.

Healing Herbs

Can be applied on NPCs, other players, and self. One of the items that will heal the wounds caused by shark bites.

Outsiders without the Native Knowledge skill recognize this item as Dried Herbs.

Bottle of Water

Natives without the Outsider Knowledge skill recognize this item as Bottle of Liquid.

Bottle of Beer

Natives without the Outsider Knowledge skill recognize this item as Bottle of Brown Liquid.

Bottle of Rum

  • Restores: 2 points
  • Locations: Shipwreck
  • Used by: Outsiders (and Natives?)

Berries, Tasty

Found on a berry bush (which has a tree icon). Outsiders without the Native Knowledge skill recognize this item as Berries.

Berries, Poisonous

Found on a berry bush (which has a tree icon). Poisonous berries also yield 2 XP when eaten. Since characters earn XP again when healing the damage, poison berries provide an experience track for non-combat characters. Outsiders without the Native Knowledge skill recognize this item as Berries.

Banana

  • Restores: 1 point
  • Locations: Banana Tree, Jungle

Found hanging on trees and lying loose around the jungle.

Mango

  • Restores: 1 point
  • Locations: Mango Tree, Jungle

Found hanging on trees and lying loose around the jungle.

Gourd of Water

Not found hanging on trees.

Miscellaneous Trade Goods

Gold Coins

Well it's gold, perhaps if I find a boat and get off this island I can trade it! You can toss a coin in the air and see if it lands heads or tails.

Traders and Tamdals will trade for your gold coins (see Trading). For example, at an outsider trading hut:

  • 1 gold coin buys 9 poison darts
  • 1 gold coin buys 5 rifle bullets
  • 1 gold coin buys 4 poisonous berries
  • 1 gold coin buys 2 bottles of water, bottles of rum, bottles of beer, tasty berries, bananas, mangos, gourds of water, or sharpening stones
  • 1 gold coin buys 1 machete, knife, dagger, piece of driftwood, blunt cutlass, or blunt machete
  • 2 gold coins buys 1 cutlass, first aid kit, or dried herbs
  • 3 gold coins buys 1 rifle, blowpipe, or GPS unit
  • 10 gold coins buys 1 gem

Gem

It's like a gold coin, only ten times more so. As some examples, at an outsider trading hut, 1 gem can be used to purchase: (if in stock!)

  • 2 rifles
  • 3 GPS units
  • 4 first aid kits or dried herbs
  • 7 cutlasses
  • 9 machetes or gold coins
  • 11 knives, daggers, or blunt cutlasses
  • 13 pieces of driftwood or blunt machetes
  • 24 fruits or drinks
  • 99 poison darts (if you could carry them)

It is believed that 5 gems would buy a heavy sword, although it will never be in stock. (See Trading for more pricing info.)

You get the idea. They're good to have.

Piece of Driftwood

With the implementation of signposts around May 1, 2006, pieces of driftwood are no longer useless. When you have 2 pieces of wood in your inventory, a button appears that allows you to construct a sign.

Sharpening Stone

Used to sharpen blunt machetes and blunt cutlasses.

Poisonous Snake

I have no idea what this is for.

Crab

Can't figure out how to use a crab.

GPS Unit

Gives the coordinate location of your character when a signal is available in a non-dense, non-enclosed area.

Coordinates are in the form [-70.366, 26.443], where the first number is the X coordinate (longitude) and the second is the Y coordinate (latitude). Moving a single square represents a change in coordinate in that direction of 0.001.
