Brewing is the process of making alcohol from regular fruit and berry juice in Shartak. Currently there is no way of obtaining alcoholic drinks other than making them by yourself or getting from another player. Traders do not automatically restock on them and there is no way to find alcohol by searching the resource huts or other places.
You need a gourd or bottle of regular juice and 2 yeastweeds to make an alcoholic beverage. There is always an option in the drop-down drink menu called brew, alongside drink and pour.
The process of fermenting takes somewhere between 1 and 3 days. Successful attempt will give you 2 XP and a bottle or gourd with an alcoholic drink. Failure will yield 1 XP , the drink is automatically poured away leaving you with an empty bottle or gourd. The yeastweed is lost in both cases and can not be retrieved once it has been mixed with the juice.
The failure rate is yet to be confirmed but is speculated to be around 10%.
It is worth noting that fungi and pumpkin juice can not be turned into alcohol.
Brewing skill
This skill is available for villagers, settlers and scientists. It is supposed to reduce the failure chance when making drinks. The fermenting times are also considerably shortened with the possession of this skill, one has to wait for only a few hours instead of a couple of days.
There has been no reports about the relation between this skill and the properties of the finished drinks.
Yeastweed
Yeastweed can be found in swamps and grasslands and is rather notorious for its rarity. Different locations are said to have different finding rates despite the similar terrain tiles that are used throughout the island. It is also speculated whether wildfires can temporarily reduce the rates in the grasslands.
Some Traders have been seen to be restocking on a limited number of yeastweed.
Consuming 1 yeastweed inflicts 2 HP of damage and gives 2 XP.
2 yeastweeds are required to make 1 bottle or gourd of alcohol.
Properties of the drinks
Brewing changes the name of the drink and enhances the former properties by making it more effective in either healing or damaging the player. The XP gained from the consumption follows the regular rule of 1 XP per 1 (gained or lost) HP.
No effects of in-game intoxication have been observed so far.
