Welcome Screen

Thank you for signing up to play. Please remember your name and password! New to Shartak? The wiki has user-contributed information about the user interface and gameplay.

Note: The map shown on the left of the main game screen is oriented with North at the top, East to the right, South at the bottom and West to the left.

Death on the island of Shartak is perfectly natural and fairly common.. what comes next can only be described as unnatural! If you're killed please don't give up! Wait a few hours to gain enough Action Points (AP) and ask a shaman to revive you back at your home camp. You won't lose anything except AP. Tip: Fruit in the jungle can help make you feel better if you've been wounded but watch out for poisonous berries.

Now that you've signed up, you can edit your profile to add description and an image, or to edit the personal details you provided just now. On the edit profile page, you'll also find a number of preferences which can change the game display slightly, and some privacy controls for when people view your profile. If you need to view or edit your profile later, you can click on your name underneath the map area on the game page to get to it.

You have been automatically logged in as your new character, to start playing all you have to do now is click the "Return to Shartak" button below.

Alternatively, you may prefer to look at various help pages first before diving into gameplay. The wiki has a lot of user contributed documentation relating to things you can find or do on Shartak. There are also Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) that you might wish to read.

Shartak has a thriving community on the official forum which can be found at http://forum.shartak.com/ so feel free to join in!

Making your way around your camp

The Weapons Hut can be found to the south-west. You should probably make that your next destination. Use the "Move" buttons on the map to the left to move around.

You've reached the weapons hut. To enter you need to click the button just above that reads "Enter Weapons Hut".

Now you need to find a machete by searching here. To search once, simply click the "Search Area" button below. Just because you don't find something the first time, doesn't mean there's nothing to find here so you might have to search a few times before you come across what you're after. Don't automatically discard anything that isn't what you're after as you may be able to trade it for something you do want later.

You've managed to get hold of a machete. It will help you chop down jungle and defeat the creatures that inhabit the island. You may also find yourself having to use it on your fellow natives as they're not all friendly. You can search a couple more times to see what you can find, or step outside (by clicking the "Leave" button) to continue. The Medical Hut can be found to the north-east. You should probably make that your next destination. Use the "Move" buttons on the map to the left to move around.

Now you need to find a healing herb by searching here. To search once, simply click the "Search Area" button below. You've managed to get hold of a healing herb. It will heal all kinds of wounds that you're likely to sustain whilst on the island. Food and drink will help you to recover, but generally not as quickly, and only a healing herb will stop bleeding from shark bites. You can search a couple more times to see what you can find, or step outside (by clicking the "Leave" button) to continue. The Trading Post can be found to the south. You should probably make that your next destination. Use the "Move" buttons on the map to the left to move around.

You've reached the trading post. To enter you need to click the button just above that reads "Enter Trading Post".

It's not essential, but can be quite useful to have a sharpening stone if you're planning to go exploring the jungle. To use a sharpening stone to sharpen any blunt blades of daggers, knives, machetes and cutlasses, simply click the inventory button labelled "sharpening stone". To trade something of yours for something the trader has, pick the items from the two drop-down lists of items alongside the Trade button, then click the Trade button.

It looks like you've already done a spot of trading and have acquired a sharpening stone. Congratulations! You've finished the tutorial. Now it's time to continue the adventure on your own. If you would like more assistance, you should check the Newcomers Guide and other Wiki resources. The Forum is also a good place to ask for help.
