General Information

A shaman is an NPC with mystical abilities and a strange connection to Shartak. The shamans of the island possess the unique capability to bind spirits to fallen bodies, enabling players to come back to life.

Shamans have 100 HP. If a shaman is killed, they will not be able to perform resurrections until they have time to self-resurrect. Killing a shaman gives 53 XP. When attacking a shaman they shout for assistance and hit back for 4 damage. They also evade attacks better than the animals. A skilled shooter using a rifle has only 40% accuracy, instead of the usual 60%. It appears that injured shamans regain 2 HP every 30 minutes.

A nickname for the NPC shaman is sharman (a shortening of Shar-tak and sha-man), to distinguish them from player characters using the same class name.

Shaman Stats

Like almost every NPC, Shamans can be attacked. These are Shaman stats, every Shaman has the same stats.

  • Max Hitpoints - 100
  • Damage - 4

Camp Shamans

These Shamans stay in camps and steadfastly watch over "springs of life", never moving from them. There is one shaman and one spring in each camp. The outsiders have captured several shamans to benefit from their resurrection magic. A camp shaman will also stop spirits from yelling if they are within a certain numbers of squares. They also suppress fires in the area of their influence. They will only resurrect people from the camp they stand in.

Balchig

  • Biography - Balchig is as much as an outsider as a native could be. Since the people of Derby like natives, and encourage them to their town, Balchig arrived in Derby without being kidnapped in the middle of the night, but by walking into town ans assisting the Derbians. He now sits in the middle of town, smoking outsider tobacco, and rocking back and forth in his rocking chair.

Hodrali

  • Location - Rakmogak [-70.180,+26.559]
  • Biography - A powerful force on the island, he is one, if not the, most powerful shaman the island has ever seen. He, singlehandly, released the powerful magic that had separated Rakmogak from the rest of the island. After completion of this feat, he pointed the cannibals to the main island, releasing their horde upon the isle of Shartak. Some say he talks to the cannibals, in the form of an old tiger.

Jakota

  • Location - Shipwreck [-70.541,+26.544]
  • Biography - After witnessing the natives they killed returning again and again to battle them, and with their own numbers dwindling the pirate crew sent men out to investigate. One young swab managed to return from Dalpok with stories of a shaman at the center of the village raising dead warriors who then went about their business almost casually. Jakota was captured soon after. The pirates intended to force him to use these powers for their benefit, only to find no coercion necessary. Most now believe that Jakota can leave any time he wants, and that none there could stop him. Some claim that he only remains and continues to raise them for his own purposes. Few dare to speculate on what those might be. Rumor has it that sometimes at night, they can hear him laughing in the darkness.

Kadmor

  • Location - Durham [-70.648,+26.343]
  • Biography - Oppressed, chained, humiliated, and demeaned are a few words to described this once happy shaman. He is now forced, by gun point, to bring back the souls of the dead. One wonders why he may deal with this, considering mere guns shouldn't frighten him. Supposedly the Durhamites threaten the lives of his family, and through this end, he agrees to help them.

The Raktamites say that the springs of life flow from his tears.

  • Location - Wiksik [-70.239,+26.405]
  • Biography - Tapran is the oldest of the village shamen, legend claims that he predates not only Wiksik, but Shartak itself. Skeptics however, say that the name 'Tapran' is most likely a hereditary title, as no one man could have possibly done all that history attributed to him.

Roaming Shaman

Roaming shamans are apprentices to camp shamans. Unlike their masters, these shamans wander the island freely. They perform resurrections for any spirits, native or outsider, that contact them for an increased AP cost than the regular shamans. Several players try to keep track of these shamans, which is located here (http://wiki.shartak.com/index.php/Category:Shamans).
