Tracking Skill Tree

  • Basic Tracking - With some difficulty, you can track animals and people.
    • Advanced Tracking - You can track animals and people who were here recently.
      • Expert Tracking - You can track animals and people who were here several days ago.

Description of Tracking

Once you have learned Basic Tracking, a button appears to "Look for Tracks". This button uses up 2 AP, and gives you a message such as "A wild boar went south." You only get the location of the next square of the creature's wanderings, so following a trail is an AP-intensive process.

Advanced Tracking reduces the cost of tracking to 1.5 AP. You usually see half a dozen tracks (in a well-travelled area), and the trails are listed as quite recent, recent, several days ago, and so on.

Tracking messages are unique: repeating tracking attempts on the same location yield exactly the same message.

Untrackable Terrain

In certain places, pushing this button will not use any AP, but will yield the message: "You can't make out any kinds of tracks in these surroundings." (It still uses an IP hit.) You cannot track:

  • inside a hut (apparently changed - tracking now works inside huts)
  • shallow or deep water
  • swamp
  • mountain path (you can track on the level jungle trail, just not while climbing)
