When you create a character for Shartak, you are asked to choose what the character's background is, e.g. soldier, explorer, native villager, etc. This is known as the character class. The character class choice affects what items the character starts with, what skills are available for the character to acquire, and what the character's Hit Point maximum will be. All eight character types are listed below along with information pertinent to each.
Native characters
- Scout
- Has 50 HP.
- Starts with berries and a gourd of water.
- Warrior
- Has 60 HP.
- Starts with a loaded blowpipe and a spare poison dart.
- Villager
- Has 55 HP.
- Starts with a banana and a healing herb.
- Shaman
- Has 50 HP.
- Starts with nothing.
Outsider characters
- Explorer
- Has 50 HP.
- Starts with a bottle of water and a GPS unit.
- Soldier
- Has 60 HP.
- Starts with a rifle and a spare rifle bullet.
- Can learn rifle skills (others apparently cannot?)
- Settler
- Has 55 HP.
- Starts with a bottle of beer and a first aid kit.
- Scientist
- Has 50 HP.
- Starts with 10x gold coins.
