I have noticed the pirates have set up the [http://wiki.shartak.com/index.php/Raiders Raiders] as a conglomerate of pirates. Why don't the order create a similar grouping, a 'U.N.' of anti-pirate clans and those unfavourably inclined to certain pirate groups?

Killing for money is a dastardly, criminal pursuit that has no place in a civilised society. The Order is trying to create and maintain a safe York where honest citizens need not live in fear of pirate attacks, terrorist outrages, or being killed ''simply because someone put money on their head.'' Also, as noted on our main page, the Guild has been implicated in pirate violence around York (to quote Tom Failur, the infamous 'Butcher of York' - "I will return to York and kill again, as I am ''being paid to do it.''"), and has undeniably been responsible for the prescence of several notorious pirates within our fair city. I was being paid to kill those people so I killed them. Since the job has finished I have not harmed a single York citizen. Editor, you are very much incorrect in your choice of titles for this article. This is not "southern" infighting. Not at all. No, most of these deaths can be blamed on none other than the Pirate Scourge. The Pirate Scourge emanates from that most cursed and damned of places, the shipwreck, which is in fact at the far ''north'' end of this island, far away from our settlements (Thank God for that!). It is safe to say that the great majority of these 4,500 so-called outsider-on-outsider killings are either pirates murdering Outsiders or Outsiders fighting back and killing pirates in self-defense. Now, you might say, "Then we can just revise this title to read 'Outsider Infighting', and it would still stand", but this too would be incorrect, as no proud Yorkman can possibly consider pirates to be true Outsiders. It is with great regret that we must declare Che, former head of the [[Shartak Rebel Forces]], to be a liability to the cause of York. Although he distinguished himself during the Third Invasion of York, he has displayed a tendency towards infighting and has attacked members of the [[1st Colonial Militia]] in defense of a vocally anti-york pirate leader. The forces of good cannot afford such divisions, and thus we are moved to strike Che's name from our list of allies.

Fortunately, our scouts have noted Che moving north away from York, thus removing the threat of continued sectarian actions by his forces.

Despite their recent attempts to sue for peace with the guardians of York, the 1st Imperial Privateers remain a very real threat to our town. Only today, a privateer murdered an innocent man in cold blood in the medical hut without provocation. The Order will continue to proactively defend York against villains such as these.

In recent days, there has been a sudden surge in neo-colonialism across the island. The self-proclaimed York Loyalist(s) have claimed Shartak for the crown of England, as have the [[1st Derby Privateers]], whilst the 1st Imperial Privateers have claimed our land for the crown of Holland. The common thread here is of course piracy, and specifically the legitimisation of it through the awarding of 'letters of marque', as if some petty despot in europe has the right to permit brigands and murderers to pillage our towns!

The Order of Patriots would like to reassure all the good folk of York that we will stand with you against this threat as we have with every threat to your freedom and wellbeing since our formation during the second invasion. And as with every other threat, we will prevail and overcome. We have extremely good information on all of these groups. With the end of the mercenary bloodbath two weeks ago, now being dubbed the [[Third Battle of York]], peace has returned to our city. Several Colonial Police were [[Order of Patriots/Medals|honored by the Order of Patriots]] for their outstanding service during the invasion. His reason? Killing Captain Tyler Whitney. When was this? During the initial MG assault. The man is a fraud and does not deserve his decorations. I have spoken to the order and all they do is make excuses. I regained my honour by slaying the little scumbag in a Hut in York. While good people like the [[The Pirate Hunters]] and other unaligned Yorkmen defend York this Che kills them. This is outrageous. I publicly demand an apology from the Order and all decorations be removed. In addition he should be added to the KOS list. Gentlemen, such arguing hardly befits the good name of York! This incident was, of course, regretable and poorly timed. However, Che had his reasons and believed he was acting in the best interests of York at the time. The captain's declaration of vendetta regardless has of course demonstrated that pirates will be pirates regardless of how well you treat them, and we're sure a valuable lesson has been learnt about trusting pirates. Both of you were an asset to the defense of York during the invasion, regardless of any differences in outlook or methodology, and therefore you were both decorated, because the Order values contributions to the safety of York above all else.

As you said, the score has been settled. Your loyalty to York is beyond question, both of you, and thus we see no reason for this argument to continue. Che was mistaken and refuses to apologise. I'm not trying to scare anyone with threats, it was not a threat, I was simply stating my intentions should certain things not come to pass. Death to the traitors and those in power who protect them. I will not share the barricades with those who would so easily stab their 'brothers' in the back; especially for a pirate. Gentlemen, such arguing hardly befits the good name of York! This incident was, of course, regretable and poorly timed. However, Che had his reasons and believed he was acting in the best interests of York at the time. The captain's declaration of vendetta regardless has of course demonstrated that pirates will be pirates regardless of how well you treat them, and we're sure a valuble lesson has been learnt about trusting pirates. Both of you were an asset to the defense of York during the invasion, regardless of any differences in outlook or methodology, and therefore you were both decorated, because the Order values contributions to the safety of York above all else.

Firstly, the RE declared their hospital a safezone only to non-combattants, and attacked several combattants who tried to seek shelter there. They also joined in the fighting right at the end, and slew several retreating mercenaries in the jungle.

Secondly, the Scurvy Crew and the JRG were asked to join the raid by the Guild, although they needed little persuasion.

Despite much hysteria last week, the promised raid on Derby by the militant indigenous nationalist known as 'Prophet' has failed to emerge. Although a few hostile natives have been slain by the Derbians, [[Derby Hospitallers] leader James Barnes assures us that no serious assualt has taken place, and it seems that Derby center is still one of the safest places to be on Shartak.

For many, the declaration of a raid brought back memories of the early colonisation, when native attacks in towns were common, instead of such incidents being restricted to the occasional dead hunter out in the wilds as they often are today.

With even militant groups such as the [[Native Resistance Front]] and [[the WickSick Headhunters]] failing to show, it seems that the Native Wars are all but over. many young natives are now members of reconciliation groups such as [[open Arms]], or are collaborating as exorcists or members of outsider groups such as the [[South Shartak Trading Company]].

[[Jolly Roger Gang]] member Patch believes that the natives are a "spent force", due to the relentless aggression of the settlers. Pirate raids have driven many from their villages and broken the community of those that remain. Militants are mercilessly hunted down by settler paramilitaries, leaving many with no choice but assimilation and cooperation.

With most groups now focussed on the internal politics of the outsider community, it seems that native raids are no longer considered a grave threat to our way of life, and the lack of a serious attack on Derby has done nothing to shake this conviction.

Despite the glib reassurances of power-hungry develoers that the roads network would destroy "only one percent of Shartak's jungle", and that gouging great scars across this beautiful land would somehow not affect it's migrant animals, the destruction of our vital ecosystem continues apace in order to further line the pockets of a greedy, uncaring minority.

What you must understand here is the interlinked nature of all life. As living beings, we consume resources to survive. Study the native creatures and peoples of Shartak - a small population grows quickly to reach an equilibrium with the resources upon which it depends, and stabilises at the level where they consume those resources at the same rate they naturally regenerate.

Lemmings, on the other hand, consume all they come across without self control, until unsustainable population growth and unsustainable consumption drive them to desperate mass migrations where millions die.

Which seems the most fitting metaphor for our society? Make no mistake - if things do not change, Shartak will be unable to support your children. And by then, there may be nowhere left to migrate to.

Through a campaign of confrontation and direct action in the east, we have already managed to drive back the developers and saved many acres of irreplacable old-growth jungle.

Nevertheless, if we do not act now, together, as a people, it may be too late. If not for love of the wild, biodiversity, or the beauty of nature, then for all our futures - join us. This may be the only chance left.

==Jolly Roger Gang Declare Derby Truce==

Following negotiations last week,the Jolly Roger Gang have announced that they have signed a non-agression pact with the Derby Hospitallers, who have also recently sought peace with [[the Scurvy Crew of The Hell-born Strumpet]]. Although Derby, being the furthest point from the shipwreck, seems an unlikely target for a pirate raid, the pact will allow trade to open between the two settlements. Jolly Roger Gang leader Michael Edwards, who seems recently to be more interested in trading than raiding, has already despatched traders to the eastern town.

Pacts like this have opened up vast areas of the southern coast to pirates, but southern visitors to the shipwreck are still often the prey of marauding 'independent' pirates, and the JRG remains unflinchingly anti-York, to the point of slaughtering several York-based traders near Dalpok during the Third Invasion.

With the route to Derby leading through either the Dalpok warzone to the north or York to the south, it seems that the chances of any JRG members surviving the trek are slim, and that this is primarilly a diplomatic manoeuvre to isolate the anti-pirate movement in York. The [[Order of Patriots]], however, claims there is a more sinister motive.

"The Jolly Roger Gang is foundering as a real threat to freedom on Shartak due to increasingly inept and short-sighted leadership" claims a recent message. "This alleged alliance is merely a further desperate attempt by 'captain' Edwards to concentrate the island's medical supplies in his camp and support his secret laudenum habit. We are calling for all concerned parents to act immediately to prevent this corruptive behavior by accosting and neutralising any pirates they find in possesion of medical supplies with possible intent to abuse said supplies."

We hear a lot about the Order of Patriots these days. They are, they tell us, our brave protectors. They claim this while blood runs in the streets. A carnage, I put to you brave people of York, they themselves have brought to us.

They have provoked the pirates. They have provoked the Order of Mercenaries. In the past, they have even brought us near to going to war with Durham. And yet, when the attack comes, the Order of Patriots are nowhere to be seen. What kind of 'heroes' hide away from battles they choose to fight? They see us all as expendable pawns in their pompous quest for self importance. And the York Loyalists have had enough.

We all know how the Order of Patriots have brought it on themselves to "drive the pirates out of York". Do they check the allegiance of these pirates? Do they check that some of the men they are murdering are not in fact privateers in the service of our king? No, they do NOT. They see themselves as above our glorious majesty. Such arrogance. Such blasphemy. This must stop.

And yet we have all seen ghastly Johnny foreigner walking with impunity through the streets of York, seemingly unnoticed by the Order of Patriots. What kind of 'patriot' chooses to leave these 'native' animals in peace, in preference of attacking Englishmen?

Although, maybe I am being unfair. It is quite possible that the Order of Patriots are indeed patriots of a different kind. Support of the savages. Attempts to drive a wedge between York and Durham. Attacks on English privateers. All I shall say is this. I see nothing in the actions of the Order of Patriots that would give the SPANISH king cause for concern.

And now I turn, briefly, to the Colonial Police. Surely a representative of homeland civil authority should have something to say about this kind of group, a group known to see themselves as above the law. And yet the Colonial Police do nothing. Indeed, they have even allied with themselves in the past. Yes, the Colonial Police do a good job protecting us against your common and garden criminal. But this means nothing if they let fear keep them from dealing with organised groups of subversives like the Order of Patriots. It is not too late for them to rectify this. But I would remind them. You are the enforcers of the noble will. And if you are incapable of doing so, than it is entirely within the rights of the nobility to give the job to somebody who will.

As for the Order of Patriots. What should you do if you bump into one of their members? Well, I wouldn't like to say. But these are dangerous times. And accidents will happen...

==Patriots Honour Defenders of York==

The Order of Patriots, much like everyone else involved, has been quick to claim a great victory in the Third Invasion of York. Declaring the [[Mercenary's Guild]] to be "utterly defeated", they have issued medals to many of those who fought in the defense.

The [[Order of Patriots/Medals|recipients]] include several members of the [[Colonial Police]], presumably reflecting the close alliance which seems to have developed between the two groups during the conflict. Other decorated members of the public include leaders and prominent members of several anti-pirate groups such as [[the Pirate Hunters]] and the [[Shartak Rebel Forces]] (now seemingly disbanded), as well as several known Order of patriots operatives.

Suprisingly, one of the more prestigious medals has been awarded to Colonial Police officer and pirate Zydd Soral. Zydd's presence in York has been a point of contention between the Order and the Police, but it seems his brave contribution to the defense of York and his public denunciation of the more violent pirates who visit our town has earned him 'reformed' status in the eyes of the Order. Perhaps this is a sign that, far from being the violent, blinkered purists their foes portray them as, the Patriots are truly concerned merely for the safety of york, despite their arguably heavy-handed methods.

It should of course be noted that these are by no means the first medals awarded on the island. The Jolly Roger Gang offer their members a variety of grisly trophies such as the 'Aye' (a severed eye on a peice of string) and a Yorkman's hand as rewards for participation in raids or 'enforcement' duties at the shipwreck.

==Native Shamen May be to Blame for Wave of 'Unstoppable' Animals==

Over the last day, reports have flooded in from all over the island of ferocious animals that have displayed an incredible resistance to injury and [[death]]. Despite inflicting horrific damage, hunters have been unable to bring the beats down and are often forced to flee as their intended prey closes the distance and begins to attck, their wounds healing at a visible rate.

There is no known cause yet for this phenomenum, although the [[Society for the Promotion of Independent Research on Interdimensional Translations on Shartak]] and the [[Shartak Cryptozoological Society]] are believed to be gathering as much information as possible - reports indicate that renowned zoologist and SCS chairman John Sevier is particularly interested in discovering a way to prevent the condition in monkeys.

Our own research leads us to believe that the condition was first encountered near Fort Creedy, the remains of an ancient military complex on the Durham peninsula, which is believed to occupy a site sacred to the natives of Dalpok. Several anti-native Durhamites, who requested anonymity to avoid the attentions of "leftinst elements", have claimed to have proof that the condition is due to a protection spell cast by isolationist shamen wishing to drive us from Shartak with a horde of undefeatable rogue fauna.

At this time there seems to be no sign of the attacks relenting, and we urge all citizens to stay inside and pray this blows over as quickly and mysteriously as it began.

You may have noticed the recent spate of vicious, unprovoked murders of civilians in York. The widely reviled 'Mercenary's Guild' is back, and they're not very happy. A secretive paramilitary group active in and around York, whose main goal is to rid the southern peninsula of its pirate infestation.

==Rumours==
York is beseiged from within. Pirates and brigands roam our streets, stealing from our people, looting our town supplies, and attacking our people at whim, whilst corrupt colonial authorities look the other way and line their own pockets. The groups who claim to protect us war and squabble amongst themselves, whilst the proud folk who built this nation live in fear and danger! As if that were not enough, our fair town has also been the target of repeat attacks by savages, who have killed a good number of our people in the past weeks. York is in peril!

Through all this, rumours have begun to circulate of a secret order of righteous men (one might say, patriots), fighting to protect the common man and preserve the integrity of our young civilisation. The first true heroes of our land, they must netherless operate secretly, to avoid certain death at the hands of the forces that seek to enslave and destroy us all.

===A Warning===
Pirates, be forewarned! The Order of Patriots will not tolerate your presence in York any longer. Know that from today onward, you stay in York and surrounding area at your own risk! Know especially that if you are a pirate known to harass Yorkmen, we ''will'' find you, and we ''will'' give you free "lessons" on how to dance the Tyburn Jig.

==Bounties==
In keeping with our policy of fostering community initatives for a safer York, the Order has decided to offer financial support and rewards to those fighting to keep undesirables out of our town. Starting immediately, the Order is offering a bounty of 10 gold coins to anyone who kills a pirate or similar felon (see list below for details) near or in York. To claim these rewards, follow these simple steps:

# Slay your pirate or other undesirable.
# Log the kill on the [http://www.philosoph.us/misc/shartak/underworld/ Shartak Underworld].
# Post a bounty request either on the talk page, or by emailing Davidclements@hotmail.com with the subject "Shartak Bounty". Remember to include your name, the name of the undesirable, and a link to their profile.
# Bounties will be distributed outside Czechy's Tavern (1W of Trader Harry's in York) [-70.368,+26.313] nightly, generally between 1800 and 1900 BST. If you are not present to collect your bounty, we will keep it until you are avaliable. (Alternatively, we may be able to deliver your bounty to a given square within the boundaries of York at around the same time. Email if you require this service.)

* Any pirate, especially those who have killed Yorkmen.
* Any member of the Lord Paul Reefer Terror Cell, who are plotting atrocities in York.

* Any member of the Destruction Lords, a group dedicated to maintaining a state of violent disorder in York. (this group has dibanded but we will continue to offer bounties on former members, for now)

===5th September 2006===
The Order's operations to protect the people of York continue, with three of our greatest foes slain in one day, including [http://www.shartak.com/profile.cgi?id=1327 Tom Failur], the Butcher of York, and [http://www.shartak.com/profile.cgi?id=1828 Mal], a murderous headhunter who has slain over 50 Yorkmen to date.

===3rd September 2006===
Good News: Pirate activity in York is at at one of its lowest ebbs since pirates first began to contaminate our town and the York Peninsula with their presence. Bad News: A new threat is on the (westward) horizon. A violently pro-pirate gang known as the [[Durham Pistoleers]] seem insistent upon waging covert war on York. This group has become open and strong allies with murderous anti-York pirates, and have made it a policy to aid and abet pirates who are out to destroy York. There have even been unconfirmed reports of suspected Pistoleers attacking innocent York citizens. The Council believes they may be planning a joint Pistoleers/Pirate invasion of York as we speak.

===22nd August 2006===
The Order of Patriots has utterly rejected the plea for mercy by the craven crew of the [[The_Scurvy_Crew_of_The_Hell-born_Strumpet|Hell-Born Strumpet]]. If pirates are safe in York, then York is not safe!

===10th August 2006===
Pirate, murderer, criminal, and all-around low-life {{profile|4251|Michael Edwards}}, leader of a [[The Jolly Roger Gang|newly-formed gang]] of thieving marauding pirates, has been apprehended and executed by the Order of Patriots, after being spotted in York recently by one of our men (bad idea for any pirate, especailly one like him). ''Another victory for York!''

===23rd July 2006===
Serial killer {{profile|1993|Red Jimmy Jimson}} was slain last night in a flawlessly-executed Patriots operation. The Council would like to take this opportunity to praise our brave frontline operatives, who risk life and limb on a daily basis to keep every upstanding citizen of York safe from the depredations of brigands such as these. The risks they take to protect us became more apparent than ever yesterday as a consoritum of pirates driven from York by our actions issued dire threats against popular local hero W.B.Hazen.

The people of York will not back down to blackmail or death threats, and the Order promises swift, fatal retribution against these buccaneers and any who aid them.

===17th July 2006===
Under repeated attack from the Order of Patriots and the [[Colonial Police]], the 'Gangsterz of York' have disbanded, and their surviving members are believed to have fled to an island south of York. To ensure the continued safety of all citizens, the Order will still be paying bounties on any former gangsterz found near York.

===13th July 2006===
In an operation supported by the Order through the Bounties Program (see above), notorious terrorist leader {{Profile|1629|Lord Paul Reefer}} was executed last night in the south of York.

===11th July 2006===
Prominent Mercenary and known pirate sympathiser and collaborator {{Profile|1755|HVLD}} was executed outside the old Guildhouse in York today as part of an Order of Patriots operation targeting those trying to revive the criminal "[[Mercenary's Guild]]".

===7th July 2006===
The Order of Patriots has concluded negotiations with the [[Colonial Police]], and is pleased to declare that both groups have affirmed their commitment to a safe, pirate-free York.

===A Long, Long Time Ago...===
