Heading for supplies I was stopped by a native. Now I've a new contract, four new targets and I'm eighty gold richer. That means I've got contracts on ''both'' sides of this war in Raktam. Someone's going to be unhappy that's for sure. War is profit.

[[Raktam]] is a war zone again. Natives don't know how to stop fighting. Bad for me though. I can't find the target. Only good thing is finding so many familiar faces. Profit be damned, I've settled a few scores in the last week.

Rumour mill says that an old target has been spotted in [[Raktam]]. She has been out of sight for months. I'll have to make good on that contract seeing as how I spent the gold already.

Looks like some of my previous marks are upset and now I'm a wanted man. Ain't no such thing as bad publicity.

Didn't make it as far as the [[shipwreck]]. Had two run-ins on the way there. Tigers, natives and idiots, oh my! Need to replenish my supplies.

At last! The longstanding Tyrannis Contract is complete. Carved a memorial for the mark. Time for some fun now. I've earned plenty of honest gold on that contract. I hear there's a decent whorehouse up in the NW.

Pursuing a target led me into the [[Locations#Caves|caves under the island]]. Strange things down there; [[Animals|giant spiders]], swarms of rats and what looks like gold seams.

Changed my mind. The damned [[Rakmogak|cannibal island]] is a bitch. Staying alive long enough to find the target is the biggest challenge I've had since I landed on Shartak.

The mark appeared right on cue. Chalk up another for patience and timing. The journey to the [[cannibal]] island was worthwhile despite the dangers and the lack of friendly faces. Looking forward to the completion of this contract.

Hunting parakeets - a welcome diversion from the stress of cannibal-dodging.

Informant turned out to be genuine. Two days of waiting patiently produced a result.

Another tipoff. And from a ''very'' surprising source. Might be a bum steer. Following this lead will take me to the [[Rakmogak|ass-end of Shartak]] for sure.

The worn boot-leather was worth it. Found the target near [[Wiksik]]. He wasn't difficult to pick out from the crowd of brown faces. He left tracks that a teetotal spinster could follow. The bigger they come, the harder they fall. Heading back to [[York]] for supplies.

A longstanding target has been sighted on the other side of the island. Going to be doing a lot of walking. Might need a new pair of boots when I'm through.

Still in [[Durham]]. Same mark as last time. Boy has no imagination.

Taking a holiday around [[Durham]]. All killing and no play makes Rex an angry boy.

The mark made his way back to [[Durham]]. I caught up with him just S of the town. Carved him a fancy memorial. Fine weather for some exercise. Feels strange to be doing favours.

Made the long journey to [[Durham]] but found no sign of the mark. Did find a glowing blue arch that acted as a [[Sacred Space|gate to a native temple]]. Found the mark at the temple. Native prohibitions against bloodshed stopped me from killing. Looks like half the island population is cowering here like rats in a cave.

Stopped at [[Raktam]] for supplies. The native village is more like a ghost town. Spotted a target hiding in the brush outside the village. He soiled his britches when I spoke to him. Almost made me sorry for him. Almost... but not quite. A good day for a killing.

Received a visit while I was sleeping off the previous job. Revived at a roaming shaman. Found someone nearby who would do for payback, a random GSUC soldier. The killing isn't always about money.

Celebrated the New Year with a roaming shaman. Happily found one target in [[Derby]]. Three to go.

Received a tipoff on the four remaining targets for the Raktam Contract. On the road again.

Met a genuine idiot who attacked me even though I was leaving [[York]] to chase a target. Stupidity in action. However another target was actually back at [[York]] so my luck was in. One down four to go.

Found the target at the [[waterfall]]. Also found one of the GSUC. Seems my message wasn't passed on to the rest of the GSUC. So I killed two birds with one stone. A good day.

Left a message for the GSUC. Might have to kill one of them as an example.

Killed by a [[York]] fool. He used to be a random killer in the Criminal Fraternity Of York. Now he's working for GSUC. Moron has no idea who I'm hunting or he'd have left me well alone.

A busy few days. The [[Raktam]] natives are a chaotic lot. This trip has produced mixed results. There's an upside. A new contract to fulfill. Money talks.

Missed the target by 24 hours. She has moved out of the war zone. On the trail again.

Finally made it [[Raktam]]. Predictably there is no sign of the target.

As usual [[York]] is surrounded by murderers. Delayed in getting back to [[Raktam]]. Tracking the target inside the war zone is going to take a while.

Couldn't find the designated target in the [[Raktam]] war zone. Happened across one that has been pending for a while. An honest 10 gold earned. Home again. [[York]] has been too quiet then suddenly a new contract. And from an unexpected quarter. Normally I wouldn't target a woman but money talks. It means going back to the war zone. I have no quarrel with the natives. Business is business.

Frequently referred to as the 'big city' of Shartak, York is the most populous as well as the busiest, most bustling settlement on Shartak. It has a colourful and frequently bloody history, and has developed a unique culture and identity, very different in character from liberal [[Durham]] in the far west, and moderate [[Derby]] in the far east, both of which have never seen themselves invaded early on (York's central location led to early invasions, and several political disputes and outsider-vs-pirate and outsider-vs-pirate hostility have led to a series of additional invasions of York. '''See [[York#History of York|History of York]] for more'''). York historically has been more institutionally outsider-nationalist than either Derby or Durham.

York was the first town to host a full-time [[Colonial Police|police force]], and was the birthplace of the criminal [[Mercenary's Guild]] and a shadowy [[Order of Patriots|secret society]] which has been active in York affairs since the days of the first waves of pirate attacks. Many, many others groups have been significantly involved in York affairs (see partial list below).

The convoluted political situation is matched in intrigue only by the bustling social scene. At its zenith York boasted two busy taverns ([[Czechy's]], at (11,09) on the map above, and [[the Waugh Arms]] at (04,09) on the map above), as well as the island's first and most successful very-widely-read [[The Yorkman|newspaper]], and a very busy medical hut which still serves to this day as a forum for public speeches and debate, conversations, and gossip, even though words can sometimes be drowned out by incessant wailing from spirits.

In the past social development of note in York had been the proliferation of outsider religion. Several houses of worship and religious organisations had arisen in York. In the very early days a man set up a peaceable and quiet church in mid-York, not long after Derby had set up its first church. This man's voice has since been drowned out (he has apparently left the island) and in typical York fashion, religion had become radicalised in the city, with frequent religious violence. York hosted a [[Holy Mission|hardline Catholic church organisation]] and a [[Shartak Protestant League|hardline protestant church]], whose members frequently attacked one another, as well as a surprisingly moderate and agreeable [[Parchment_Pages#York_Synagogue|Jewish synagogue]] in south York. Historically one of the busiest places in York, the York medical hut was a favourite haunt for healers and ghosts alike. As you can see on the map above, it is located at the far north end of York. The hut is filled with crates which contain abandoned medical supplies, which people freely take, to heal themselves, to heal others, and for [[trade monetary gain]], especially in towns without access to [[first aid kit]]s who will pay top dollar for them, the three native towns and the [[shipwreck]]). There are several doctors who have taken up permanent residence there, and many wounded people come into the medical hut to be healed. A constant problem in the hut is [[spirit]]s wailing and injuring people, but several friendly [[shaman]]s have taken up the job of keeping it free of ghosts. Renegades who murder these friendly pro-York shamans are generally hated by all.

The Medical Supplies Hut also serves as a major platform for public speeches, debates, and is the main centre in York for conversation and gossip, owing to its large population.

Frequently out of necessary supplies, and owned by a crooked trader who is known to cheat customers. Harry uses his profits from selling inferior goods at inflated prices to advertise fairly often in [[The Yorkman]], and in purchasing new guard dogs. Customers angry at being ripped off or at Harry being out of stock of most items often kill the guard dog to express their anger.

Located 1NE of the Weapons Hut, the Club House is easily identified by the pink-and-purple scarf hanging above the entrance, and the pungent aroma of Scampi Fries wafting downwind.

Formerly the site of the now-infamous [[Pwotters]]' HQ, this hut was fully refurbished inside and out when the lease was purchased by the Director of the Botheringham FC Supporters' Club in late December 2008. Although both the Kingdom of Skulls Throne Room and the settlement of Port Breton had previously undergone minor modifications, this was a revolutionary event in the island's real estate market, and will no doubt pave the way for all manner of cheap imitations.

== History of York ==
York history is defined principally by two things. One: constant invasion by hostile forces, and two: the rallying of local groups, fighting off the invaders, and the hardening of domestic opinion (both "civilian and York groups") in a nationalistic direction. (this cycle tends to repeat, as nationalistic sentiment then angers some implacable elements of the Shartak population, who thus come into conflict with York and eventually decide to invade).

In the very beginning of the colonisation effort, York was a small outpost with a tiny population, without even a trader (though [[Kahuni]] himself was captured very early on). Slowly as things began to grow, the town developed its own identity, and has played a central role in Shartak politics ever since, serving as a lightning rod for various power-hungry groups and individuals.

The [[First Battle of York]] or "First Invasion", is the name given to a series of native attacks on York from quite early in the colonisation effort. Natives started descending on York after word began spreading in the native settlements of the presence of large numbers of outsiders at this location. The attacks by natives were uncoordinated, but large scale violence by natives lasted approximately from March to April 2006. The [[Colonial Police]] formed in York during this period in reaction to the violence. Somewhat overlapping was the also-vaguely-defined [[Second Battle of York]] or "Second Invasion". This is the name given to the "pirate invasion" of April-May 2006 in which dozens of unaligned pirates came south independently to attack York and victimise the populace, after directions to York were posted at the shipwreck. The tremendous pirate-on-outsider violence during this period was supposedly the original impetus for anti-piratism in York, and it is during this period that the OoP was founded (Order Of Patriots). The initial pirate invasion was extraordinarily politically significant for the settlement. Thereafter, numerous York groups and individuals began taking to killing all pirates and "pirate sympathisers" that they see in York, on sight. The period between the end of the Second Invasion and the start of the Third Invasion is an often-forgotten period in York history, but is very significant. During this period, York was coming into its own, and its politics were up in the air. There was very strong nationalist and anti-pirate agitation by the Order of Patriots and others, but this was certainly just one of many political movements. These numerous diverse social and political currents were pulling York in all directions. In other words, the situation in York resembled somewhat the current confused situation in Durham (as of this printing). The Yorkman newspaper was founded during this period, and the Colonial Police came into their own during this inter-Invasion period, and at that time took no firm stances in York politics. They opposed the growing anti-pirate radicalism of the population because it meant attacks on many innocent pirates, not because they were political opponents of that movement, as they were apolitical. The CP were off-and-on enemies of the Order. With the shock departure of CP-founder MickR towards the very end of this inter-Invasion period, it looked like things would remain this way. But this all changed and York as a whole was swept into the arms of the nationalist anti-pirate radicals as a result a very serious crisis of the...

[[Third Battle of York]], or, the "First MG Invasion". The "[[Mercenary's Guild]]" invaded and began a general wave of violence in York starting September 20th 2006 (their withdrawal occurred on October 15th 2006), in which they killed dozens of innocent York citizens at random in an attempt to show strength and in a failed attempt to destroy the [[Order of Patriots]]. This battle rallied the York groups around a common cause, and thus had a long-lasting effect on York politics. It helped to harden York nationalism. The MG was eventually beaten back and withdrew, leaving the Order intact. The Colonial Police and many unaligned citizens took to defending the city from invasion during this MG massacre, and when the smoke cleared the Colonial Police, formerly enemies if the Order and apolitical, had become strong allies and finally fully enmeshed in York politics. Lingering bitterness and tensions between York (especially the Colonial Police) and the '[[MG gang]]', temporarily set aside for more than two weeks during and after the [[York Christmas Truce|Great Christmas Truce]], led to the resumption of hostilities on January 20th 2007 in what was soon called...

The [[Fourth Battle of York]], or the "Second MG Invasion". This one became the largest battle in Shartak history, with anti-York and anti-outsider groups from across the land joining forces to attack York. The "York Alliance" of pro-York groups eventually claimed victory after the invaders were driven back.

On the morning of June 7, 2007, York was hit by an invasion of a different kind: mysterious signposts saying "WILLIES!" appeared throughout the town. Much mystery surrounds this incident, which has since become known simply as the "[[WILLIES!]]".

From April through late-Summer 2008, the [[Necromancers Guild]] raided the York medical hut on multiple occasions through the use of disembodied spirits and unholy magics. Although no long-lasting impact by the Necromancers was made on York ground, their tactics proved innovative and brutally effective nonetheless. During this period of violence the [[Criminal Fraternity of York]] was founded by the rogue Freedom in an attempt to rid York of its authoritarian police forces.

In late October 2008, the [[Greater Shartak Unification Coalition]] was founded by the York patriots [http://www.shartak.com/profile.cgi?id=12130 De La Coiffe] and [http://www.shartak.com/profile.cgi?id=13748 Bahl]. The GSUC quickly took charge of York with the aid of the [[1st Colonial Militia]], [[Defender Corps of York]], and [[Order of Patriots]], forming the [[Greater York Federation]] and began its conquest of Shartak by raiding [[Wiksik]] and the surrounding native villages. Island-wide carnage continued throughout the territories of the [[Kingdom of Skulls]], [[Greater Raktam]], and York. In December on the Durham peninsula, the [[Durham Ruins]] complex formerly inhabited by the [[Independent Republic of Fort Creedy]] was annexed by GSUC forces, and converted into a protectorate of York with the new title of [[Great Southall]]. Guerrilla warfare between Creedy and Southall forces culminated in Durham-based GSUC members outlasting the insurgents and Creedy forces scattering from the battlefield. The GSUC simultaneously claimed [[Bristol Yards]] and [[Chastity]] as additional protectorates of York.

From Spring through early-Summer 2009, The Greater York Federation hosted a series of native-slaughtering contests, notably [[Native Awareness Month]] and the [[York Triple Crown]]. Hundreds of natives were killed during these campaigns, all in the name of glory and nationalist pride.

At last! The longstanding Tyrannis Contract is complete. Carved a memorial for the mark. Time for some fun now. I've earned plenty of honest gold on that contract. I hear there's a decent whorehouse up in the NW.

The worn boot-leather was worth it. Found the target near [[Wiksik]]. He wasn't difficult to pick out from the crowd of brown faces. He left tracks that a teetotal spinster could follow. The bigger they come, the harder they fall. Heading back to [[York]] for supplies.

A longstanding target has been sighted on the other side of the island. Going to be doing a lot of walking. Might need a new pair of boots when I'm through.

Still in [[Durham]]. Same mark as last time. Boy has no imagination.

Taking a holiday around [[Durham]]. All killing and no play makes Rex an angry boy.

The mark made his way back to [[Durham]]. I caught up with him just S of the town. Carved him a fancy memorial. Fine weather for some exercise. Feels strange to be doing favours.

Made the long journey to [[Durham]] but found no sign of the mark. Did find a glowing blue arch that acted as a [[Sacred Space|gate to a native temple]]. Found the mark at the temple. Native prohibitions against bloodshed stopped me from killing. Looks like half the island population is cowering here like rats in a cave.

Found the target at the [[waterfall]]. Also found one of the GSUC. Seems my message wasn't passed on to the rest of the GSUC. So I killed two birds with one stone. A good day.

The mark made his way back to [[Durham]]. I caught up with him just S of the town. Carved him a fancy memorial. Fine weather for some exercise. Feels strange to be doing favours.

Frequently referred to as the 'big city' of Shartak, York is the most populous as well as the busiest, most bustling settlement on Shartak. It has a colourful and frequently bloody history, and has developed a unique culture and identity, very different in character from liberal [[Durham]] in the far west, and staunchly-moderate [[Derby]] in the far east, both of which have never seen themselves invaded (York's central location led to early invasions, and several political disputes and pirate-vs.-outsider hostility have led to a series of more recent invasions of York. York is unquestionably more institutionally outsider-nationalist than either Derby or Durham.

York was the first town to host a full-time [[Colonial Police|police force]], and was the birthplace of the criminal [[Mercenary's Guild]] and a shadowy [[Order of Patriots|secret society]] which has been active in York affairs since the days of the first waves of pirate attacks. Many, many others groups have been significantly involved in York affairs (See partial list below).

The convoluted political situation is matched in intrigue only by the bustling social scene. The settlement boasts two busy taverns ([[Czechy's]], at (11,09) on the map above, and [[the Waugh Arms]] at (04,09) on the map above), as well as the island's first and most successful very-widely-read [[The Yorkman|newspaper]], and a very busy Medical Supplies Hut which serves as a forum for public speeches and debate, conversations, and gossip, even though words can sometimes be drowned out by incessant wailing from spirits.

Another social development of note in York had been the proliferation of outsider religion. Several houses of worship and religious organisations have arisen in York. In the very early days a man set up a peaceable and quiet church in mid-York, not long after Derby had set up its first church. This man's voice has since been drowned out (he has apparently left the island) and in typical York fashion, religion has become radicalised in the city, with frequent religious violence. York currently hosts a [[Holy Mission|hardline Catholic church organisation]] and a [[Shartak Protestant League|hardline protestant church]], whose members frequently attack one another, as well as a surprisingly moderate and agreeable [[Parchment_Pages#York_Synagogue|Jewish synagogue]] in South-York. Native pagan religions are generally not tolerated in York. The Catholic York-based [[Holy Mission]] have even taking to crusading against "native heresy".

The busiest place in York, regularly featuring upwards of three dozen people inside at any one time. As you can see on the map above, it is located at the far north end of York. The hut is filled with crates which contain abandoned medical supplies, which people freely take, to heal themselves, to heal others, and for monetary gain ([[trade]] them in for gold, especially in towns without access to [[first aid kit]]s who will pay top dollar for them, the three native towns and the [[shipwreck]]). There are several doctors who have taken up permanent residence there, and many wounded people come into the medical hut to be healed. A constant problem in the hut is [[spirit]]s wailing and injuring people,but several friendly [[shaman]]s (notably [http://www.shartak.com/profile.cgi?id=1471 lacuna]) have taken up the job of keeping it free of hostile spirits. Renegades who murder these friendly pro-York shamans are hated by all.

The Medical Supplies Hut also serves as a major platform for public speeches, debates, and is the main centre in York for conversation and gossip, owing to its large population.

Customers angry at being ripped off or at Harry being out of stock of most items often kill the guard dog to express their anger.

===Trail to Derby===
[[Mercenary's Guild]] member [http://www.shartak.com/profile.cgi?id=3322 Zydd Soral] suggested at a public meeting that the SPF create an eco-friendly Trekker's Trail; this was quickly agreed to. This trail can be followed from York to Derby. The trail, a continuation of Southern Coastal Boulevard, begins at York's medical hut and continues 35 paces northward until it turns toward the northeast to skirt the swamp. It then continues eastward to Derby. Travelers are asked to clear as they travel, but to be careful of occasional eco-terrorist attacks.

===Trail to Durham===
There is a trail that connects Durham and York, the much-hailed Southern Coastal Boulevard, cleared and maintained by the [[Civilized Highway Society]] and some other volunteers, and is a major benefit for traders such as those in the [[South Shartak Trading Company]]. The trail, when in good condition, should only take slightly more than 2 days from central York to central Durham. Beware of bandits and wild animals on the road westwards!

== History of York ==
York history is defined principally by two things. One: constant invasion by hostile forces, and two: the rallying of local groups, fighting off the invaders, and the hardening of domestic opinion (both "civilian and York groups") in a nationalistic direction. (this cycle tends to repeat, as nationalistic sentiment then angers some implacable elements of the Shartak population, who thus come into conflict with York and eventually decide to invade).

In the very beginning of the colonisation effort, York was a small outpost with a tiny population, without even a trader (though [[Kahuni]] himself was captured very early on). Slowly as things began to grow, the town developed its own identity, and has played a central role in Shartak politics ever since, serving as a lightning rod for various groups and individuals.

The [[First Battle of York]] or "First Invasion", is the name given to a series of native attacks on York from quite early in the colonisation effort. Natives started descending on York after word began spreading in the native settlements of the presence of large numbers of outsiders at this location. The attacks by natives were uncoordinated, but large scale violence by natives lasted approximately from March to April 2006. Somewhat overlapping was the also-vaguely-defined [[Second Battle of York]] or "Second Invasion". This is the name given to the "pirate invasion" of April-May 2006 in which dozens of unaligned pirates came south independently to attack York and victimise the populace, after directions to York were posted at the shipwreck. The tremendous pirate-on-outsider violence during this period was supposedly the original impetus for anti-piratism in York, and it is during this period that the OoP was founded (Order Of Patriots). The initial pirate invasion was extraordinarily politically significant for the settlement. Thereafter, numerous York groups and individuals began taking to killing all pirates and "pirate sympathisers" that they see in York, on sight. The period between the end of the Second Invasion and the start of the Third Invasion is an often-forgotten period in York history, but is very significant. During this period, York was coming into its own, and its politics were up in the air. There was very strong nationalist and anti-pirate agitation by the Order of Patriots and others, but this was certainly just one of many political movements. These numerous diverse social and political currents were pulling York in all directions. In other words, the situation in York resembled somewhat the current confused situation in Durham (as of this printing). The Yorkman newspaper was founded during this period, and the Colonial Police came into their own during this inter-Invasion period, and at that time took no firm stances in York politics. They opposed the growing anti-pirate radicalism of the population because it meant attacks on many innocent pirates, not because they were political opponents of that movement, as they were apolitical. The CP were off-and-on enemies of the Order. With the shock departure of CP-founder MickR towards the very end of this inter-Invasion period, it looked like things would remain this way. But this all changed and York as a whole was swept into the arms of the nationalist anti-pirate radicals as a result a very serious crisis of the...

[[Third Battle of York]], or, the "First MG Invasion". The "[[Mercenary's Guild]]" invaded and began a general wave of violence in York starting September 20th 2006 (their withdrawal occurred on October 15th 2006), in which they killed dozens of innocent York citizens at random in an attempt to show strength and in a failed attempt to destroy the [[Order of Patriots]]. This battle rallied the York groups around a common cause, and thus had a long-lasting effect on York politics. It helped to harden York nationalism. The MG was eventually beaten back and withdrew, leaving the Order intact. The Colonial Police and many unaligned citizens took to defending the city from invasion during this MG massacre, and when the smoke cleared the Colonial Police, formerly enemies if the Order and apolitical, had become strong allies and finally fully enmeshed in York politics. Lingering bitterness and tensions between York (especially the [[Colonial Police]]) and the '[[MG gang]]', temporarily set aside for more than two weeks during and after the [[York Christmas Truce|Great Christmas Truce]], led to the resumption of hostilities on January 20th 2007 in what was soon called...

The [[Fourth Battle of York]], or the "Second MG Invasion". This one became the largest battle in Shartak history, with anti-York and anti-outsider groups from across the land joining forces to attack York. The 'York Alliance' of pro-York groups eventually claimed victory after the invaders were driven back.

On the morning of June 7, 2007, York was hit by an invasion of a different kind: mysterious signposts saying "WILLIES!" appeared throughout the town. Much mystery surrounds this incident, which has since become known simply as the "[[WILLIES!]]".

From April through late-Summer 2008, the [[Necromancers Guild]] raided the York medical hut on multiple occasions through the use of vengeful spirits and unholy magics. Although no long-lasting impact by the Necromancers was made on York ground, their tactics proved innovative and brutally effective nonetheless.

In late October 2008, the [[Greater Shartak Unification Coalition]] was formed by the York patriots De La Coiffe and Bahl. The GSUC took charge of York with the aid of the [[1st Colonial Militia]] and [[Defender Corps of York]], and began its conquest of nationalistic glory by sacking Wiksik and its allies. Island-wide carnage continued throughout the territories of the [[Kingdom of Skulls]], [[Greater Raktam]], and York.

In December, the ruin complex formerly inhabited by the [[Independent Republic of Fort Creedy]] was annexed by GSUC forces, and made into a protectorate of York with the name of [[Great Southall]]. Guerrilla warfare between Creedy and Southall forces culminated in Durham-based GSUC members eventually outlasting the insurgents.

* A democratic insurgency against the [[Royal Court of Greater Raktam]] reaches a crescendo in Raktam.
* Civil war ignites in Wiksik between the newly established [[Necromancer's Guild]] and its opponents.

* A regency is appointed over the [[Royal Court of Greater Raktam]].

* The first Amazingly Great Shartak Race is organised by Johan Crichton and features contestants including Lama, Oktavius, SofaKing, Maximillion Pike and Jesus.

* 14th August 2008 - The ocean between the mainland and Rakmogak becomes passable again. Explorers arrive at [[Rakmogak]] and immediately come into conflict with the cannibals of the island.
* A new island is discovered off the coast of Derby by Raivo, and is called Arivo Island. A tunnel entrance leads into the extensive tunnel network extending under Shartak.
* Port Bristol, later re-named [[Bristol Yards]], is established.
* Dappled Shadow assumed the title of "Empress of the Three Lands", declared Blahmicho as King of [[Greater Raktam]] in Sofaking's absence, and declares Black Fang, Grand Tyrant of the [[Kingdom of Skulls]], a pretender to the throne of Wiksik. While assembling an army to march to Port Breton to reclaim for Wiksik the buffer zone negotiated between the Kingdom of Skulls and the [[Eastern Federation]], Dappled Shadow suffered a head injury and disappeared. The relationship between the French at Port Breton, the Creedy Republic, and the Royal Court of Greater Raktam was threatened by claims that Dappled Shadow had declared war upon Derby.

== September ==

* The [[Mercenary's Guild]] is reformed.
* The Raktam court room sees a succession of people sitting on the Royal Throne, including Head-Onna-Stick, the first puppet leader of Raktam, following the vanishing of Blahmicho.
* Sofaking returns to Raktam and reclaims his throne.
* After a peaceful and productive reign power is passed from Ron Burgundy to the newly elected DarkFerret.

== October ==
* The Grand Tyrant, [[User:Skull Face|Black Fang]] of the Kingdom of Skulls dies, and is succeeded by [http://www.shartak.com/profile.cgi?id=10965 Anthor], who proclaims himself the Avatar of the Kingdom of Skulls.
* The [[Greater Shartak Unification Coalition]] forms in [[Durham]] and [[York]] and sets out to invade the native settlements, beginning with [[Wiksik]].
* [[Fungi]] are discovered in the tunnels beneath the island.
* The [[Pirate High Command]] is established.
* [[Rakmogak]] cannibals raid [[Derby]].

== November ==

*The [[Independent Republic of Fort Creedy]] is invaded and seized by the [[1st Colonial Militia]] and [[/zom/]]. New names are proposed for the location of at first Hades Hope and then Great Southall, with Solemn appointed governor. The Republic's ally, the [[Royal Court of Greater Raktam]] is simultaneously besieged by the [[Greater Shartak Unification Coalition|GSUC]]. Over the course of the month, /zom/ and the Durham-based Machitty clan come into conflict and the situation becomes an ongoing guerrilla war when members of the Republic return to the ruins.
*[[Templar Bank]] ceases trading.

== December ==

*The battle over the ruins known known as [[Fort Creedy]] or [[Great Southall]] continues. By the end of December the squabbling over who (if anyone) has actually won continues with no resolution in sight. The year ends as it began with guerilla warfare as Creedy and Zom forces clash with GSUC and the 1st Colonial Militia.

*[[Raktam]] was repeatedly raided by the [[Greater Shartak Unification Coalition]], with substantial casualties to both sides including many non-combatants. By early December the GSUC finally withdrew, proclaiming victory: the claim to victory was equally shared by the [[Royal Court of Greater Raktam]] who said they successfully repelled the assault.

*[[The Battle of the Crazy Falls]] took place between various factions of natives and outsiders. Divine intervention in the form of bolts of lightning against various outsiders who attacked prior to the starting time of the battle resulted in a conclusive native victory, claimed jointly by the [[Kingdom of Skulls]] and the [[Royal Court of Greater Raktam]]. [[Eyes of a Hawk]] won 5,000 gold coins in prize money as a consequence of killing three opponents in the battle (a distinction equaled by Frodor), and was proclaimed champion of the battle. Erstwhile native empress [[Dappled Shadow]] died a permanent death during the battle, apparently assassinated on contract by [[User:Rex Feral|Rex Feral]].

*[[Santa]] appeared at his grotto again, dispensing gold and items to those who have been both bad and good. Santa died seven times during the holiday period, somewhat less than the Yuletide gorefest of 2007. This is due to the fact that the [[the Rakmogaki Collective]] intervened in the Grotto, slaying anyone who threatened the Big Fat Red Saint. A large concentration of spirits also led to the slaughter.

*The [[Bone Gnawers]] Clan repeatedly raided [[Derby]], prompting intervention by the [[Greater Shartak Unification Coalition]].

Couldn't find the designated target in the [[Raktam]] war zone. Happened across one that has been pending for a while. An honest 10 gold earned. Home again. [[York]] has been too quiet then suddenly a new contract. And from an unexpected quarter. Normally I wouldn't target a woman but money talks. It means going back to the war zone. I have no quarrel with the natives. Business is business.
