Western Islets

The western islets (or islands) are three minor land masses in the gulf to the west of the main island. Two lie close to the northern shore of the south-most peninsula and are seperated by shallow straits from the mainland. The third is considerably larger and lies off the west coast of the mainland separated by shark-infested waters.

First Western Islet

The westernmost islet has a land area of 86 units (30 units of jungle terrain and 56 units of beach terrain).

Third Western Islet

Template:Ubermaplink The third western islet, commonly known as La Islet Bonobo and Shark Island, is the largest of the five known islets in the realm of Shartak. It is believed to span 56 units along its main axis and 19 units at its waist. The island consists of only beach and jungle terrain and appears to lack any distinct landmarks. The wildlife appears to be very similar to that found on the mainland though there is a clear lack of alligators and rats. Unlike the other islets, the third western islet appears to be the furthest from any form of civilization.

History

During the early period of exploration and mapping, this islet or island became the subject of some contention when two seperate groups or clans both claimed naming rights.

The Discordian Cargo Cult were the first to announce a name for this land, calling it La Islet Bonobo. Their explorers had noted the similarity between Shartak and Hispaniola and hence expected an analogue to the island La Gonâve. They laid claim to the area on their clan page on 2 April 2006 and formally named it on 29 April 2006.

This claim was contested, however, by the Royal Expedition. One of their members had reached the island on 26 February and a second joined him on 22 March. The majority of the island was added to the Shartak UBER MAP as a result of their efforts, shortly thereafter. Discussion of a suitable name was underway without having reached a resolution when the proclaimation of the DCC precipitated a reaction. On 3 May the RE declared the land to be called Shark Island.

At the time of writing both parties hotly contest the claims of the other.
