Zydd

Zydd is a young pirate, probably no older than 21 and is also an expert of martial arts and rightly calls himself a Ninja Pirate. There are dark, almost black splotches on his face, probably the remnants of old tatoos, and he has CP tattooed in bright gold letters onto his left shoulder, a black flag with a white skull and crossbones on the right. Unfortunately, both are permanent. He isn't either anymore. He is fairly simple in appearance, other than his over the top afro and horrible smell. His forefinger is missing on his left hand and one of his eyes are a dull gray from taking a bullet near there. His long, curly hair is streaked blonde by the hours upon hours of hard work out in the sun and wind. He acknowledges you in an very low, raspy voice.

History

You find yourself inside the noisy din of a local tavern. There is a ragged person sitting quietly in a corner, his drink on the make-shift table in front of him. You approach, and sit accross from him.

"I know why you came to me," he says in a low, raspy voice,"It's the same for all of them. You want to know who I am, why I'm here.

"I'm an oddball, huh? A pirate, here of all places. Normally they don't let my kind in, you know, but I'm a 'special case', according to them atleast. They used to say I was less pirate than anything." He quickly finishes off his drink, and waves the bartender down for another. It was very casual, as if the bartender and him were old friends.

"Where to begin... Well, I guess I'll start with before I landed on this island. I was still a child, then. My mother was a wench, aboard a ship full of pirates. Well, thats what the other pirates told me. I think she was a prisoner aboard that forsaken piece of driftwood. I was born on that place, and it will be the place where I intend on going to die. That ship crashed onto a rocky outcrop on the edge of the island. Many pirates were killed, yet, surprisingly, there are many, many pirates still. I was one of the lucky ones. They say my father saved me, before being swept out to sea." He turns away quickly, choking back tears.

"I never met him, my father. My mother didn't want me to know which of those who held her captive was the one to have given me life. I always wonder if he's somewhere on the island." He takes a long drink from his mug, and sets it down loudly.

"Seventeen years I stayed at that place. The grave that you know as the ship-wreck. I had always wondered what was beyond the dense wall of jungle that was before the jungle. It took me years to work up the courage to venture in. I took a long trek in, until I found a large clearing. In this clearing I saw a girl. She wasn't from the grave, and she wasn't one of the savages from the island.

"I talked with her for a long while. She told me of a township to the south, a place she called 'York'. She told me that she used to be a soldier in her home country, sent to York to defend the colonists. But the colonists were incredibly ungrateful for her help, so she killed any who did not appreciate all her hard work. Eventually the killing caught up with her, and a militia calling themselves the 'Colonial Police'. I told her that the only way she would be able to go back was to clear her name. She did so, and faded out of the public eye. I didn't see her since then."

He starts daydreaming for a moment, then takes another drink and continues.

"I tried my luck in search of York, and these Colonial Police. It was a hard search, but I found them. I had mis-understood their ways. I had thought them a rogue band of marauding lunatics, but no, they were just, and fair. I had met and talked with their leader. Mick was his name. He was retiring. I only wish I could have known him better, but...

"The new captain to take over the CP was a man named Kjendlie. He was very modest, and an incredible leader. I promised I would be there to help him if he was in need, but... No, not anymore. I had joined that day. I was there to stop the criminals in York, along with my fellow officers Nighter and Czechy." He nods towards the bartender. He doesn't look much like a police officer, but it's easy to tell he's seen his fair share of bloodshed.

"There were others but... No. No, they weren't as close as those three. Those three were more friends than fellow officers. For 6 months I served with them. I defended York from Mercs, and other pirates, as well as common criminals. I was the first pirate to be awarded a medal by the Order of Patriots, y'know? Yes, two of them... I wore them proudly, I did. I was also the only pirate who was even permitted to stay in York. Any other pirate would be cut down and thrown into a pile of bodies. Yes, I was proud.

"Close to the time I quit there was some guy. Named Bauer. He dreamed of a Colonial Police that would span the entire island. This new Colonial Police, or more like, the Colonial Counter Terrorist Unit, would absorb the old Colonial Police. No, I didn't like it. I have my reasons. The other officers couldn't understand, but I never expected them to. I left York that day."He looks around slowly, finishes off his drink, and continues.

"I joined up with those mercs, I did. The same ones who only months earlier were my mortal enemies, who I would do battle with constantly. Well, thats untrue. I didn't do battle. I only talked. During the invasion, All I did was sit around and speak with the Mercenary leader. He had offered me a job with them, if ever the whole "Policing" bit didn't work out. I scoffed at him that day. Little did I know that soon, I would accept his offer. I joined the mercs. I lost the trust of my ex-fellow officers, and had to sever all ties."

There is a commotion outside the tavern. He looks up, flashes a quick grin at you, and says "I got to go." He flips a couple of coins towards the barkeeper, and scrambles out the back door. As you look out the window, you see him dissappear into the jungle, just as some Patriots burst in through the front door, demanding to know where the pirate went. You don't say a word, along with the rest of the tavern patrons. You never see him again after that day.
