These numbers are sloppily gathered by simple subtraction of the GPS coordinates of the shaman in each camp (so "shipwreck" here means "the shipwreck's shaman). For example, Durham's coordinates (-70.648,+26.343) minus Wiksik's coordinates (-70.239,+26.405) gives (-.409,-.062). The larger of those numbers is .409, so assuming terrain doesn't get in the way (which it does in most cases), it would take 409 paces to get from the center of Durham to the center of Wiksik and vice-versa. Actual travel distances depend on terrain and a player's skills and are more difficult to determine.

All of these distances are from the shaman of one camp to the shaman of another. Some of these numbers (the italicized ones) are sloppily gathered by simple subtraction of the GPS coordinates. Others (the non-italicized ones) are accurate and based on terrain. "(1+)" means there is 1 water square in addition to the land squares (given by the number after "(1+)", so "(1+)230" means 1 water tile and 230 jungle/beach/grassland tiles).

* Italicized numbers are inaccurate as-the-crow-flies GPS-subtraction ones.

* "(x+)" means that, in addition to the land squares listed, one must travel through x squares of water. These numbers are separate because different skills give different travel bonuses, so a single land + water * 2 value would be inaccurate and difficult to fix for players with Trekking or Swimming.

Revision as of 03:16, 29 May 2006

I don't mind other people playing my sandbox, unless they mess up my stuff, in which case I throw sand and tantrums.
