This page is for adding reports of possible bugs. Once the bug has been confirmed, it can be moved into the Known Bugs section.

Before reporting a bug, you might want to check Not Bugs just in case it's actually not a bug.

Bugs that have been resolved and older than a week, can be found at Bugs:Fixed.

Example

Use a simple, sensible bug title. Provide information about your browser, operating system, character class, and location terrain if necessary.

To use the template, enter the following, but replace emboldened text with text appropriate to your bug report:

Turned off GPS Unit drop bug.

Timestamp: 18:08, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
Logged by: Htkl
Status: new
Severity: low
Description: Just tried to drop 10 turned off GPS units, but found that it only dropped one, Also tried with different numbers and only dropped one at a time.

Comments
It might be that the turned off GPS had different charges, so the game treated them as different objects. – Wulla (talk) 18:16, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

In that case it should probably be changed to drop the least charged ones first, then when you drop ten at once you wouldn't have to worry about it dropping ones at full power. --Buttercup 21:25, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
I second the motion that the drop code treats them as seperate objects due to % left, managed to drop two at a time earlier when I chose to drop 9, happened 2 or 3 times, not a major issue though as dropping doesn't take AP *-* Buzzmong 16:18, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Contacts and Drop-Menu Bug

Timestamp: 03:40, 28 December 2007(UTC)
Logged by: --Marvin 03:40, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Status: new
Severity: low
Description: I was using my native alt when I found a lone outsider so I started to attack, I added him to my contacts so I could see his HP and name then went back to attacking but I couldn’t, I soon noticed when I used the drop down bar it read “Outsider” (which I selected to attack and wasn’t working), below that was “The Law” (the Name). I could only attack “The Law”.

Trading

Timestamp: 00:24, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
Logged by: One of many doctors
Status: new
Severity: low
Description: I'm at trader Harry's hut in York and decide to trade gold coins for gems. He says:
You ask to trade your gold coins for his gems. Trader Harry makes you an offer, "Gems are in short supply so I want more than the usual price. I want thirty four gold coins for a gem"

When I try to trade gems for gold coins he says: You ask to trade your gems for his gold coins.

Trader Harry makes you an offer, "I'll give you four gold coins for a gem"

Comments
Are you a new/old trader, is he happy to see you or bored with your presence in his store? Are you using a native character? Either of these conditions could result in over the top price differences, or it could just be a bug! --Simon 15:41, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Probably old Outsider. He keeps saying something about how there's an entire island to explore, but I don't see how that can account for a 850% price difference. --One of many doctors 01:30, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
It's a "feature" of the trading, although it does seem a little harsh. --Simon 12:49, 14 October 2006 (UTC)
"blunt knives are in short supply so I want more than the usual cost. I want two knives for a blunt knife." today. This isn't a glitch but you should still fix it. why don't we suggest blunt and non-blunt weapons being added together for the price? --AlexanderRM 00:30, 13 April 2007 (UTC)
You mean make the blunt knife and knife have the same value? Ideally the trader would just ignore the short supply modifier for blunt machete/cutlass/knife and that would probably make it a straight swap. --Simon 07:39, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Haggling Text when Selling

Timestamp: 23:39, 4 February 2007 (UTC)
Logged by: Johan Crichton
Status: new
Severity: low
Description: When you're selling items to a trader, if you have haggling you get a message about the trader not prepared to lower his prices (IIRC). Shouldn't it be that the trader isn't prepared to pay more?

Comments
What's the difference between selling items and buying items when no money is changing hands, just different quantities of goods? Do you mean when you're trying to get fewer items back than what you're giving him? --Simon 10:04, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Buying Items over Inventory limit

Timestamp: 03:20, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Logged by: Johan Crichton
Status: unlikely to be fixed
Severity: low
Description: While I don't think I could trade for more items to carry, it was possible for me to buy (with gold) the item putting my invsize at 72 / 70. This seems wrong?

Comments
It's probably a bit late, but do you remember what item you bought and how many of them you bought in one go? --Simon 07:36, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

I'm thinking it was bullets (if I recall correctly that you can buy several bullets for a single gold coin) but aren't 100% sure of that.--Johan Crichton 10:27, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Trying to buy multiple fruit seemed to be prevented by the trader being concerned about my load - couldn't try with rifle bullets as they were out of stock. --Johan Crichton 01:34, 6 July 2007 (UTC)
  • The inventory limit is more of a guideline amount. From time the trader might think you look strong enough to handle an extra couple of bullets and let you go over the normal 70 or backpack 100 limits by one or two items. It's unlikely that you'd be able to go more than 4 over the limit and with recent changes to how inventory works, it's even less likely to cause any problems if you do. --Simon 07:28, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Item multiplication in holes

Timestamp: 13:38, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
Logged by: Xintlaer
Status: new
Severity: critical
Description: I dug the maximal depth of hole right south of the pirate shaman. Then I dropped a blowpipe into it, yet it didn't dissapear from my inventory, so I repeated it three times. Afterwards I filled the hole with earth up to the top, and the blowpipe was still in my inventory. When I dug back into the ground I found 3 blowpipes... I believe that this may lead to item multiplying and players multiplying their gold to insane amounts.

Comments

  • Shhh... don't tell everyone ;) Seriously though, this does seem like a bug, but I could have sworn this was fixed during testing. I'll have a poke around and see what's going on. --Simon 14:55, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
  • I've been unable to replicate this. I'm going to consider it fixed unless you can provide steps that reproduce the problem. --Simon 22:35, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
  • Did it again... dug a hole at the place where Jakota was standing to it's maximal depth, held a blowpipe in my inventory, tossed it into the hole three times without it dissapearing, filled the hole up to the top, and dug it back again... Presto... now I have four blowpipes... tomorrow I'll check it with something else, and I'll try to give some other details. And besides, those three blowpipes are now listed as a separate stack of items in my inventory. --Xintlaer 20:33, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
  • OK, by now i know that it works with empty blowpipes on any square... when I tossed a machette into a hole it dissapeared from my inventory normally--Xintlaer 12:54, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
  • Ah, that would explain why I couldn't replicate it. I was using gold and machetes.. I suspect bottles of water, blowpipes, and rifles will all exhibit the same effect. Not sure if you'd need to dig right down either. --Simon 07:17, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
  • No longer an issue with the recent changes to blowpipes, and rifles or bottles of water seem fine too. I think this is now fixed. --Simon 07:25, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

AP over max

Timestamp: 21:55, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
Logged by: AlexanderRM
Status: new
Severity: low / med
Description: Today I logged on after a few weeks of not playing to find that a tiger had killed me some time ago. So I assumed spirit form, contacted the home shaman, and then glanced over and noticed that I had 90AP left. I'm a warrior by the way.

And then I stood up and lost 20AP. On a side note there seems to have been a massive shargle slaughter in raktam...

Comments

  • I think it wasn't a bug :) Check More AP AGAIN topic on the forums. Although I don't know if I understand everything right - you spent 25 AP contacting home shaman and another 20 AP standing up? --Lama 00:27, 23 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Wow... and now my location dot doesn't seem to show up on the map. Drat...--AlexanderRM 00:34, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
  • Does it happen to be that you're on one of your waypoints? --Simon 20:28, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

Clear all jungle with Trailblazing

Timestamp: 01:04, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
Logged by: Mark D. Stroyer
Status: New.
Severity: Low/Med.
Description: Out in the jungle, it will show a button with the title "Clear all jungle ([Jungle density level] AP)" However, I have Trailblazing, which means that every level of jungle cleared is .5 AP, rather than the normal 1 AP. Shouldn't the "Clear all jungle" button's AP be changed to reflect this?

Misleading Log Out Text?

Timestamp: 08:33, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
Logged by: Buttercup
Status: new
Severity: low
Description: When I log out it takes me to http://www.shartak.com/game.cgi where it says "Sorry, you need to be logged in to access this page." along with the normal "Shartak is a massively-multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set on a mysterious island..." stuff. Doesn't affect anything, as I can log back in and everything just fine. It just seems silly to be told I shouldn't be accessing that page every time I log out. --Buttercup 08:33, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

Comments
I figure either it's misleading log out text, or I'm being sent to the wrong page. --Buttercup 08:34, 5 February 2008 (UTC)

I don't believe it's a bug, just a silly thing. It would be better if it went to the main page, though.– Wulla (talk) 04:55, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

It strikes me as related to Bugs:Fixed#Redirect_on_login_to_//game.cgi. game.cgi calls itself with the action of the logout button - and doesn't redirect itself to the shartak.com/ when the current character is logged out. --Johan Crichton 08:02, 7 February 2008 (UTC)

Killed by an Unknown

Timestamp: 04:21, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
Logged by: Johan Crichton
Status: new
Severity: low
Description: Currently, players killed by NPC's or animals seem to end up with something like

Died: N times (last time was 2008-MM-DD HH:MM, killed by an unknown)
in their character profile. This is presumably a bug, and the game should be able to record what you were killed by.

Shark Bite Suicide

Timestamp: 21:29, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
Logged by: Johan Crichton
Status: new
Severity: low
Description: As per the topic on the forum, if you gain a shark bite, you can examine items and other activities that don't consume AP to suicide a character for 0AP expenditure. This might be considered a feature by some, but by others this is a bug.
A backpack lets you carry more than usual (although carrying more than one doesn't give any extra benefit). At the moment you have plenty of space left.
You lose 1 HP from an old wound. Use a first aid kit to stop the bleeding before you die. You die.

Presumably, only actions that consume AP should result in ongoing shark bite damage?

Comments

  • I think you bleed to death regardless of what you do. Whether you lie still or move around a lot. Every action, regardless of the ap used should make you bleed to death a little bit more. -Elegost 11:27, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

Levels.cgi : level 34 cap

Timestamp: 07:22, 16 June 2008 (UTC)
Logged by: Johan Crichton
Status: new
Severity: low
Description: The level dropdown for levels.cgi only has levels 0 to 34, despite several classes being able to attain levels beyond level 34. A workaround exists in that you can manually edit the cgi parameters and select levels above 34.

Clear All Jungle with an Old Wound

Timestamp: 07:31, 9 October 2008 (UTC)
Logged by: Johan Crichton
Status: new
Severity: low
Description: If you have picked up an old wound from a tiger (and possibly other causes), then clearing jungle by repeat uses of the chop jungle results in 1 hp damage per action. Clicking the Clear All Jungle button only results in 1 hp damage in total, no matter how much jungle is present.
